DIY Glitter Wine Bottles

Image
I like to think of myself as the lazy DIYer, a connoisseur if you will. I see things on the web (Pinterest mainly) and then do it half assed and somehow I get amazing results. This is evident in my sparkly wine bottles. Now used as a bangle holder - but you can use yours for whatever you want! Supplies needed Wine bottles glitter white paint Steps: 1. Soak bottles in hot water- this not only cleans them, but then makes taking off the label super easy. 2. Make sure the label is completely off so you can start on a clear state. 3. Put down something to catch sparkles- I used garbage bags so I could chuck it after. 4. Paint 1/8 of the bottle white - I did it vertical stripes. 5. Dump sparkles on. (Only painting a bit at a time ensures that the paint will be wet and thus more adhesive for sparkles. 6. Repeat. 7. Seal - If you are a dedicated crafter you can use some sort of sealer. I used hairspray. TA DA

DIY Tuxedo Vest

Image
Hi Friends! I got inspired on this DIY from the blog runwaydiy.com, definitely check it out. I went to Value Village to pick up a men's blazer for this project and had quite the fiasco, you can read about it here . Anywho, I was stoked to find a tuxedo jacket and it was only $14! Supplies used: Jacket Thread Needles Scissors I promptly went home and dud the following: 1. Washed it for obvious reasons. 2. Cut off the sleeves about 1.5 inches from the shoulder seam. This was really difficult and took a lot of thought because of the shoulder pads. I wanted to keep the pads and create a kind f point with them. Leaving that bit of fabric I could pull and pin it where I wanted to make it structured. That sounds harder than what it was. 3. Sew! I just did a quick and dirty hand stitch in here (on the inside of the jacket of course). Once for placement then twice more for reinforcement  By dirty I mean I didn't even take a picture to show you, because it i...

At Home Hair Colouring

Image
Hey ladies! As a new grad I had to take out one of my loves from my budget: getting my hair professionally done. It as a sad day, but sometimes us girls have to be resourceful. But my bad luck happens to be your good luck, because now I know the great box colour brands and the not so great. Lets start with Loreal's Preference. Love, Love, Love this product. It goes a long way, but I still needed two boxes. It is still thick enough that it does not splash or goop all over. It stays. And does not smell as bad as the others. My second choice is Gosh. It has all the same great qualities as Loreal, but the colour did not come out as what I wanted or what was on the box. It may have been that I used to to try a botched job from the day before. So I won't let that stop me from using this product again. Brands I did not like:  Product did not go far enough Colour faded really fast  The brush thing was a bit much. I thought this blog post may ...

Print Making/ Silk Screening

Materials needed: A template to carve into to make the print, whether that is Styrofoam, wood Printing or Painting rollers Printing ink, poster paint Material to transfer the print on, paper is common, but do not be scared to get creative! Pencils newspapers The first step is to figure out what you are going to design and what you are going to transfer it on to. sketch it out on a scrap piece of paper first, it is much easier to erase rather than trying to fix carvings. Once you have created your beautiful design, the next step is to carve it on the template. If using Styrofoam, carve with a pencil. The substance must be able to handle carving and able to transfer the pattern. Make sure to carve very deep so when you roll the paint on the design is still visible. Lay down newspapers under your design, you can also use paper for the paint. Roll your paint roller through the paint on the paper, then ever so lighting roll it onto your design template. Ensure paint has gotten into the c...
