Product Review: Quo by Orly Ombre Set

Image
I have stayed away from doing the ombre thing on my nails, because it seems like I could create a huge mess trying to mix colours with white or black. So when I received this, I was very excited to try out this trend with minimal risk. I had never really used Orly before, no specific, conscious reason. But was pleasantly surprised to find the colours are great, easily applied and dries fairly fast. Here are the results: Absolutely love! And I am now an Orly fan and have bought more of their polishes since!

Product Review: Essie Good To Go Top Coat

Image
This is honestly all my dreams come true. Essie Good to Go! Fast drying top coat. No, seriously. For some reason, I am a person that needs to apply 3 coats of polish for anything to look halfway decent and it takes forever to dry. So by the final coat I am dyyyying to be done. This top coat means I am good to go sooner than before (see what I did there). I will toot its horn up and down. For a great top coat and way to get on with your life after parking you rear for far to long to do your nails - definitely invest in Essie's Good to Go! the fasted drying top coat. ever.

Product Review: China Glaze Base & Top Coat

Image
My mother is a saint and sent me these in a care package: China Glaze- Strong Adhesion Base Coat I obviously has heard of base coats before but never really bought into them and usually that layer is reserved for my Witchcraft Nail Hardener. Well I made room for this and am amazed! The  China Glaze- Strong Adhesion Base Coat,  is crazy good. You can feel that is it, like, sticky. But not...ya know? I am also convinced that it takes less coats of polish after. I just used a really light pink last night and got way better coverage then I usually do. China Glaze- No-Chip Top Coat I don't have much to say about this one. The China Glaze No-Chip Top Coat does it's job for sure, but didn't wow me. Check my next post for the top coat I opt for.

DIY Glitter Wine Bottles

Image
I like to think of myself as the lazy DIYer, a connoisseur if you will. I see things on the web (Pinterest mainly) and then do it half assed and somehow I get amazing results. This is evident in my sparkly wine bottles. Now used as a bangle holder - but you can use yours for whatever you want! Supplies needed Wine bottles glitter white paint Steps: 1. Soak bottles in hot water- this not only cleans them, but then makes taking off the label super easy. 2. Make sure the label is completely off so you can start on a clear state. 3. Put down something to catch sparkles- I used garbage bags so I could chuck it after. 4. Paint 1/8 of the bottle white - I did it vertical stripes. 5. Dump sparkles on. (Only painting a bit at a time ensures that the paint will be wet and thus more adhesive for sparkles. 6. Repeat. 7. Seal - If you are a dedicated crafter you can use some sort of sealer. I used hairspray. TA DA

DIY Tuxedo Vest

Image
Hi Friends! I got inspired on this DIY from the blog runwaydiy.com, definitely check it out. I went to Value Village to pick up a men's blazer for this project and had quite the fiasco, you can read about it here . Anywho, I was stoked to find a tuxedo jacket and it was only $14! Supplies used: Jacket Thread Needles Scissors I promptly went home and dud the following: 1. Washed it for obvious reasons. 2. Cut off the sleeves about 1.5 inches from the shoulder seam. This was really difficult and took a lot of thought because of the shoulder pads. I wanted to keep the pads and create a kind f point with them. Leaving that bit of fabric I could pull and pin it where I wanted to make it structured. That sounds harder than what it was. 3. Sew! I just did a quick and dirty hand stitch in here (on the inside of the jacket of course). Once for placement then twice more for reinforcement  By dirty I mean I didn't even take a picture to show you, because it is that emba

What else is there to do besides nails!? My mom sends the most amazing care packages and in the most recent one were silver and pink nail polish pens. I had sworn off of them after an unfortunate incident with a black one and a yellow couch... But these were not faulty and worked amazing. Definitely recommend them. White polish is Alpine Snow in Matte by O.P.I, silver is petal to the metal by Sally Hanson and the artwork is done by the Sally Hanson Nail Art Pen. More to come! My mother has sent me another great care package, which included nail glitter! So I did this mani: The pink is Suzi & The Lifegaurd by O.P.I and the glitter is Iridescent from Avon This is sooooo girly! Thumb and ring finger are neon pink from Joe Fresh, index finger is Italian Love Affair by O.P.I, middle is Sparkle-icious by O.P.I with Set in Stones by Essie over top and finally, the pinky and dots on the ring finger dots are Summer Peach by American Apparel.

Falling into Beautiful Nails

Image
Louboutin Nails! The black is by Sally Hansen in the Insta-Dry collection and the red is Monsooner or Later from OPI I love this one with the messy hearts. Dark blue is Blazing Blue from Sally Hansen's Insta-Dry as well and the teal is from OPI's line for Sephora in Teal We Meet Again.  Orange Sorbet from Joe Fresh, then I painted the accent nail with a base coat of Pedal to the Metal from Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure, went over it twice with Jo is in The House from HandM and once with Set in Stones by Essie from their Luxeffects line. Deep purples and Oxblood are all the rage this season. I loved this colour so much I left it on for 4 days! That is a record for me (This picture was taken day 4). The colour is Manicurist of Seville by OPI I am so super excited about this one. It is a ombre set from Quo by Orly, obviously in pinks. It came in a care package from my mom! (Yes, I chopped off my nails last night. It was getting hard to ty

I have wanted this hair for some time now, but was unsure if it would look good or that this style was going to be trendy for much longer. It seems that this trend isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. Being frugal after stretching my wallet in Calgary one weekend and Kelowna the next, I decided to try doing this myself. Where I got this notion and the balls to do it remains a mystery. Onto why you guys are here: How. Step 1:Buy the supplies. I got a highlighting kit from the drugstore. But I am sure you can get any bleach or bleach like products from any beauty supply store. Step 2: Section hair. I did three sections. Bottom, middle and top layers. I suggest this but you know your hair better so do what works better with your layers. No layers? Section it anyway to make your hair more manageable. Step 3: Apply product. This brand comes with a spatula type thing that I used, I tried to avoid using my hands at all costs because a little on the g

What started out as a joke at the office about my crazy nails turned into a manicure I really enjoyed. So get creative with your tips! The gold, bronze and silver are from the Sally Hanson Complete Salon Manicure collection, the sparkly grey is Rock Solid by Orly and the blue is actually a colour from a Konad stamp kit!

Deep Conditioning Hair Treatments: Product Review

Image
My hair is one of my most favourite things about me and being a girl. I think everyone should treat their hair like their first born. We treat it so badly with all those heat products, tight ponytailss, backcombing and that big mean sun that it deserves special treatment on the regular. This is why I am always on the hunt for a great deep conditioning treatment and have found 2 that I really want to share with you. First, is Pantene Pro-V’s Professional Level Damage Repair Ampoules, which is a box containing 5 tubes of single use treatments. It is recommended to leave it on for 5 minutes after shampooing and before conditioning, once every 2-3 weeks. I used it once a week and loved every minute of those 5 weeks. My hair was soooo silky soft and so easy to style. One week I even used it as a leave in, while swearing off heating tools. So there were 7 days of a lot of braids and buns, but my hair thanked me. The second I received in a swag bag from a Joe Fresh party, Joico’s

Chi Silk Infusion

Image
Ladies! I have recommended this product before, but I must give it the proper post it deserves, plus I found a new use for it- the face! No joke. This stuff is amazing.   It is a kind of oil that is lightweight, does not clog or look greasy. It is perfection. Of course I put it on around 10-20 minutes before I put on any makeup. But it soaks up fairly quickly so there has been no change in my makeup application or staying power. (I of course use a primer, but we all should regardless of face regime). I guess I shouldn’t toot its horn too much. In regards to acne, I have found no change, some here and there but nothing out of the ordinary or due to the silk infusion. So it isn’t a total miracle worker. Just super moisturizing, while feeling and smelling fabulous. As for hair, I put it on when damp and on dry hair every day until I wash it again (also mentioned before this can be 5-7 days) and my hair does not look greasy! I love putting it on curls so they are shiny a

Anti Spring Nails

Image
No, no, we love spring. Just not rules when it comes to our nails. I always see nail 'trend' articles or headlines like "perfect winter hues" and a lot of time disagree or just don't follow them! Nail polish is supposed to be fun and carefree. I paint my nails whatever colour I feel like at that moment. Sometimes with an outfit in mind, others the outfit inspires by the nails or I see someone wearing a colour I like. So here are my I will paint my nails "spring" colours whenever I want, nails. A Little Sparkle

Image
I love this look because it takes the edge of a sparkley mani. So first I put on the green sparkly polish, then 2 coats of the nude colour. Just diagonal strokes, then smooth it out with vertical strokes. Then of course leave an accent nail if you would like. Base: Simply Smashing Nude Now
